Gzira United scored five minutes in added time to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Mosta in a match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Wednesday. A match which was originally scheduled to be played in September, before the international break, but which was postponed due to inclement weather.
For the Maroons, this was the third successive draw which sees them move to just two points behind Zabbar St. Patrick and two ahead bottom-placed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s. Mosta, on the other hand, drop another two points and now lie win fourth place, two behind second-placed duo Floriana and Marsaxlokk and one ahead of Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers. This was the third draw in four matches for the Blues.
During an otherwise uneventful first half, Geoffrey Acheampong hit the crossbar for Mosta but with eight minutes to go, the Blues managed to take the lead thanks to substitute Ebere Adolphus Eugene. However, five minutes in added time, Gabriel Mentz headed the ball home from close range to level matters.
