BOV Challenge League: Zejtun Corinthians relegated

Zejtun Corinthians were relegated to the Amateur League 1 while a decider is necessary between Luqa St. Andrew’s and St. Andrews as the final matches from the Challenge League Play-Out were played on Sunday.

In fact, Swieqi placed first in the Play-Out on 38 points, followed by Fgura on 37, Lija 32, Tarxien 31, Zebbug 29, St. Andrews and Luqa 28, Zejtun 27, Attard 18 and Msida 8.

A goal by Ayrton Mizzi on the 61st minute handed Zebbug Rangers a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Centenary Stadium to secure their status and condemn the latter to the Amateur League 1.

Tarxien Rainbows and Luqa St. Andrew’s shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Collins Gyamfi put Luqa ahead just before the end of the first half but Timothy Tabone Desira equalised on the 51st. Gyamfi restored the lead on the 57th but a minute later, Peter Xuereb levelled matters. Alan Abdel Rahman made it 3-2 for Luqa on the 69th but Tarxien equalised once again courtesy of a Jean Carlos Cloth Goncalves penalty on the 78th.

At the Sirens Stadium, St. Andrews registered a most comfortable 5-0 win over Lija Athletic.

William James England put the Saints ahead on the 4th and doubled the score on the 20th. Luke Anthony Borg made it 3-0 on the 33rd. England extended the lead with another goal eleven minutes in the second half and four minutes from time, Lesley Cassar Jackson converted a penalty to make it 5-0.

Meanwhile in their final match from the Top 6, runners-up Zabbar St. Patrick were held in a goalless draw by Senglea Athletic at the Centenary Stadium.

Melita ended their commitments on 59 points, followed by Zabbar on 51, Marsa 40, Pieta’ 37, Senglea and Zurrieq 35.
