Dusan Fitzel to stay in Czech Republic

Dusan Fitzel will not coach the Malta national team as he decided to retain his post as Technical Director of the Czech Football Association. The news was revealed by MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo during a meeting of the Council which was held on Thursday.

Darmanin Demajo explained that over the past two weeks, Fitzel met the president of the Czech Football Association twice. The President of the Czech FA told Fitzel that his departure would leave repercussions on the game considering the work done and what was he planning to do.

Therefore although Dusan Fitzel would have loved to return to Malta, he decided to stay in the Czech Republic for the time being.

Darmanin Demajo said thirty six foreign coaches had applied for the job. These include well-known names such as Antonio Cabrini, Giancarlo Camolese, Francesco Graziani, Marius Lacatus, Alex Miller and Sammy Lee.

The MFA President said that the Executive Committee will be discussing the recommendations of the Technical Director and stressed once again that the association needs to find “the right man for the right job at the right price.”

Meanwhile Technical Director Robert Gatt is acting as Caretaker National Coach and will lead the team in the friendly match against Liechtenstein on February 29.
