The Manchester United Supporters Club of Malta (MUSC) proudly announces the visit of the Manchester United Academy in Malta for a one-week training camp. This event forms part of the MUSC’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
A squad of 20 players accompanied by four members of the Academy’s coaching staff will arrive in Malta on Sunday 25th October 2009. The contingent will return to England on Friday 30th October. The provisional squad list includes promising players like Paul Pogba, Michele Fornasier, Alberto Massacci, Davide Petrucci, Paul (Sean) McGinty and Nicky Ajose, among others.
The Manchester United Academy, led by manager Paul McGuinness, is known around the world for its excellence in nurturing young football players, some of whom frequently progress to the first team not only at Manchester United but with other notable football clubs around Europe.
During their stay in Malta, the Academy will undergo an intensive training programme and will also play a friendly match against Hibernians. A total of six training sessions will be held. There will be a daily morning session from Monday until Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon. The United players will also train on Monday evening from 5.30 p.m. till 6.30 p.m. and on Tuesday afternoon between 3.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.
After their Monday evening session, the coaches and players from the United Academy will hold a special training exercise with the nursery teams of Hibernians. All these sessions will be held at the Hibernians Stadium in Corradino. The stands at the stadium will be open for the general public during all sessions and entrance is free.
On Tuesday evening, the members of the MUSC Malta will have the opportunity to meet the coaches and the players at the Club house in Msida during the League Cup match which Manchester United will play against Barnsley. This event is reserved exclusively for Club members only. On Wednesday afternoon, the Academy will be in Gozo to meet the Gozitan members of MUSC Malta. The event will be held at Grand Hotel in Ghajnsielem.
The highlight of the visit by the Manchester United Academy will be the friendly match played against the Hibernians U-18 team at the Hibs Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from MUSC Malta and from Hibernians.
