Malta will be playing a friendly match against the German national team in Aachen. The news was confirmed by Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB) general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach while speaking to Sport Bild Online. The game will most probably be played in May or early June.
Germany coach Joachim Loew is planning a training camp in Austria or Switzerland just before the team leaves for the 2010 FIFA World Cup which will be held in South Africa.
Niersback said that a decision has not been taken yet whether the game will be held before or after the training camp. However he confirmed that two more friendlies are being lined up – one at home and the other away.
Germany secured a place in South Africa after winning Group 4 with 26 points, dropping their only points in two draws with Finland. The group included runners-up Russia, Finland, Wales, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein.
Prior to the EURO 2004, Malta had also played a friendly match against Germany away from home. On that occasion, Germany registered a 7-0 win.
