Four football clubs were among seven sports clubs who will benefit from a sponsorship by Robert Arrigo. The football clubs are Premier League side Sliema Wanderers, Second Division side Gzira United and Third Division sides Gharghur and Swieqi United. This is part of an ongoing sponsorship campaign by the company which started three years ago.
Arrigo said that his company feels obliged to help sports clubs whose committees are made up of volunteers who work hard for their clubs. He said such voluntary work has to be shown appreciation and said that hopefully such sponsorships encourage other companies to do the same.
On behalf of Gzira United, Tyrone Demanuele said that after former president Albert Rizzo passed away, luckily for the club, former Robert Arrigo stepped in to support the club three years ago. Demanuele said that works on the training grounds within the Gzira secondary school will start on Monday. The artificial turf pitch will be financed through the MFA’s project for the improvement of infrastructure of member clubs. However for the same training grounds, the club will be spending a large amount of money for the installation of floodlights.
New Gharghur president Andrew Sullivan thanked Arrigo for his support, saying that although the club was among the smallest clubs, expenses were high. He explained that the club aims at making a quick return to Division 2. On the other hand, Ralph Agius Fernandez also thanked Robert Arrigo for the sponsorship after he was the first shirt sponsor for the club last year.
The other clubs to benefit from sponsorships by Robert Arrigo are Athleta Basketball Club, Ta’ Xbiex Netball and Gzira Bo??i Club.
