Swieqi United present new logo, kits

Swieqi United FC presented a new logo and the new kits for the coming season during a business breakfast which was held on Saturday at Cavalieri Hotel, St. Julian’s.

This event was well attended by club officials and players, club sponsors, local businesses and the local press. MFA CEO Mr. Bjorn Vassallo and MP Hon. Robert Arrigo were also in attendance.

SUFC President, Ralph Agius Fernandez, highlighted the achievements of Swieqi United FC in its short history. He thanked Kunsill Malti tal-Isports for their help with regards to turf pitches for club training and congratulated the newly formed MFA administration.

SUFC Marketing and PR Officer, Dr Justin Fenech, gave a quick overview of the SUFC Business Plan for 2011/12 – 2013/14 which included the rebranding exercise and the launch of a new website. Mr Pierre Mizzi, from Logix Communications, unveiled the new SUFC logo and explained that it encompassed all that SUFC stands for – mainly its locality and its committee that is made up of university students and university alumni.

Dr Justin Fenech continued by unveiling the designs of the new club website, created by Untangled Media, and by showing visuals of the new first and second kits, supplied by Sportika.

Head Coach, Roberto Debrincat, explained that in spite of initial difficulties related to managing a new team, hard work and enthusiasm aided SUFC in reaching a positive first season result of sixteen points in the MFA 3rd Division.

In order to attain the Club’s ambition of achieving better results this year, the following players have been signed for the upcoming season: Michael Ciappara (Defender) from Birzebbuga St. Peter’s; Stacy
Vella (Defender) from Msida St. Joseph; Matthew Spiteri (Midfielder) from Pietà Hotspurs; Baldassare Borg (Midfielder) from Luqa St. Andrew’s; Simon Cauchi (Striker) from St. Andrews; Fabien Debono (Striker) from Sliema Wanderers; Andrè Azzopardi (Defender/Midfielder) from Birkirkara; Steve Dimech (Defender) from Mosta; Portuguese defender Dario Arruda; Dutch midfielder/striker Wymer Snijder and French Midfielder/Striker Pierre Galloiuste.

MP Hon Robert Arrigo expressed his admiration towards SUFC and explained how he found the club’s enthusiasm infectious. He pledged his continuous support and encouraged others, including businesses and
the Local Council of Swieqi, to do the same. He concluded by highlighting the importance of football and the creation of clubs like SUFC as catalysts for social interaction and the development of localities.

MFA CEO, Bjorn Vassallo, showcased the positive influence of having a relatively young committee and the beneficial effects that the club has had in the social sphere within its locality. He also reiterated that the MFA is willing to help Swieqi United FC and all other clubs in their quest to access improved sports facilities without the need for excessive travel.
