Citizens aim at extending lead

BOV Premier League leaders Valletta will be hoping to extend their lead to ten points ahead of second-placed Tarxien Rainbows as they take on Qormi in one of the two matches in programme on Saturday at the National Stadium.

Valletta are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League, dropping points in just three draws and are coming from three successive wins over Hamrun Spartans, Vittoriosa Stars and Hibernians.

Qormi are currently seventh on twelve points and are eager for points in their bid to secure a top-six finish. They won just one of the last seven matches and are coming from a 2-2 draw with Vittoriosa Stars last Sunday.

Stephen Azzopardi welcomes back Jonathan Bondin who missed the Vittoriosa game as he was suspended but Kang Hojung is ruled out through suspension. Denni could not make it to the starting line-up for Valletta after suffering a concussion in the win over Hibernians.

In the first round, Valletta registered a 1-0 win.

In the second match, Birkirkara take on Hibernians.

The Stripes could join Tarxien in second place should they claim the three points. They remained unbeaten in the last six matches, although they won just two. Last Saturday, they beat Floriana 1-0.

Hibernians, on the other hand, are desperate for points as they have now gone ten matches without a win. A 0-2 defeat to Valletta in the last outing left the Paolites second from bottom on just eight points from eleven matches.

Birkirkara, who welcome back Joseph Zerafa after serving a one-match ban, defeated Hibernians 2-1 in the first round.
