Rabat Ajax were the third team to win promotion to Division 1 after St. Patrick lost to champions Zejtun Corinthians in the BOV Second Division on Sunday. They join Zejtun Corinthians and Naxxar Lions.

A brace by Kenneth Abela and goals by Silvio Sciberras and Oldi Majtara gave the Corinthians a comfortable 4-0 win over the Zabbar side. This defeat leaves St. Patrick in sixth place, one behind Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and three behind Mellieha.

Rabat shared the spoils in a goalless draw with Mellieha to make sure of returning to Division 1 after a two-year absence.

The promotion issue will be settled on May 1st as Birzebbuga take on Mellieha and St. Patrick face Mgarr United.

A draw would be enough for Mellieha to secure promotion. In case of a defeat, they have to hope that St. Patrick fail to beat Mgarr – in which case the two teams would end their commitments in joint-fifth place.

To be promoted, Birzebbuga have to beat Mellieha. A draw would be enough should St. Patrick fail to beat Mgarr.
