Jurgen Degabriele returned back to Malta following another trial with Italian Serie B side US Triestina where he had the opportunity to attend a training camp and play for the Italian club’s under-15 side during the thirteenth edition of the Memorial Franco Gallini – an international tournament which is held in Pordenone.
Degabriele’s visit to Trieste was made possible thanks to Kenneth Vella and Robert Busuttil from the Triestina Soccer School Malta and Franco Schiraldi who is the head of the US Triestina youth sector.
Jurgen’s parents accompanied him and had the opportunity to visit the club premises and the Stadio Nereo Rocco. They also met Director General Marco Cernaz. The Degabriele family were impressed with the hospitality shown by the club and by Rita Schiraldi. They were then invited to watch the Serie B clash between US Triestina and Sassuolo.
The Memorial Franco Gallini featured Italian clubs Udinese, Belluno, Pordenone, Torino, Reggina, Atalanta, Empoli, Venezia and Portogruaro; English side Crystal Palace; Dutch side Den Haag, Partizan Belgrade of Serbia, Flora Tallinn of Estonia, the national teams of Russia and Romania and Curitiba of Brazil. Degabriele played the four Group D matches against Partizan Belgrade, Fiume Bannia, Den Haag and the 1-0 win over Bulgarian side Tchavdar where he scored the all-important goal.
Officials from US Triestina expressed their satisfaction with the player’s performance and will remain in contact with Triestina Soccer School Malta for Jurgen Degabriele, who is a product of Hibernians, to attend another trial in August.
