Melita and Mosta cross swords this evening in a Promotion Decider at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 19:00 after the two teams ended their commitments in joint-third place on 32 points, behind BOV First Division League champions Balzan Youths and runners-up Mqabba.
This will be the third time Mosta will be playing a promotion decider to the Premier League after losing to Birkirkara in 1990 and Qormi in 2008. The Blues therefore hope to be third time lucky and secure promotion to the top division.
For the Amateurs, a win on Friday would mark their first promotion to the Premier League although they have already played top division football – the then First Division decades ago. Their last appearance in the top division in fact goes back almost five decades – 1963/64.
The two First Division League clashes ended with an identical 3-2 score – a win for Mosta in the first round and a win for Melita in the second. In the Maltco Lotteries First Division Knock-Out, the two teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
