Referees' exchange between Malta and Northern Ireland

The latest developments in the referees’ sector were revealed during a press conference at the Le Meridien Hotel, St. Julian’s. Among the new initiatives is an exchange of referees between Malta and Northern Ireland.

MFA Director of Refereeing Adrian Casha revealed that Maltese officials will be controlling a match from the Premiership in Northern Ireland on October 15. On the other hand, Irish officials will be controlling two BOV Premier League matches, namely Tarxien Rainbows vs Marsaxlokk and Mosta vs Hibernians in programme on Sunday 16th and Monday 17th October.

The four Maltese officials who will be travelling to Northern Ireland are Kevin Azzopardi, Andre Arciola, Christopher Francalanza and Mitchell Scerri.

Casha said that there are currently fourteen elite referees and sixteen elite assistant referees in the Premier League.

Recruitment will always be on top in the agenda of the association and another course for new referees got underway over the past days. This course has attracted twelve candidates.

The MFA Director of Refereeing also spoke about recent appointments in referees’ committees and explained programmes being undertaken in this sector.
