Olimpia Cluj-Napoca proved too strong for Birkirkara as they defeated them 8-0 in one of the opening games of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Qualifying Round Group 3 mini-tournament at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
In another match, SU 1° Dezembro of Portugal defeated Glentoran Belfast of Northern Ireland 4-0.
The Stripes had a nightmare start suffering four goals in the first 22 minutes. Cosmina Duša put Olimpia ahead on the 9th, Raluca Sârghe doubled the score on the 15th, Alexandra Lunca 3-0 on the 20th and Andreea Voicu 4-0 two minutes later. By the end of the first half, the Romanians scored a fifth goal thanks to Ioana Bortan.
Štefania Vatafu made it 6-0 on the hour and the same player increased the lead further eight minutes from time. Cosmina Duša sealed the issue with a eighth goal on the 90th when she converted a penalty.

Monday 13th August will see Birkirkara facing SU 1° Dezembro in the first match of the day which will kick off at 17.30. Then, Olimpia Cluj-Napoca and Glentoran Belfast will cross swords at 20.00.
The third and final day will be played on Thursday, 16 August with the first match pitting Olimpia Cluj-Napoca against SU 1° Dezembro and will kick off at 17:00 at the National Stadium.. Birkirkara will play their third match on Thursday, 16 August against Glentoran Belfast and the match will also start at 17:00 at the Centenary.
All matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium with the only exception the match between Olimpia Cluj-Napoca against SU 1° Dezembro which will be played on Thursday 16th August
Entrance to these matches will be for free. However, on entrance, donations will be collected for the Community Chest Fund.
