MFA CEO Bjorn Vassallo said that in view of this qualifying campaign, the association worked hard to provide a new image and more visibility for the national team in order to attract more interest from fans and companies who are willing to support the team.
He said that despite the recent developments which definitely saddened football fans, the passion and unity the national team brings is still there.
Vassallo said the association did whatever possible to attract more people to Ta’ Qali with a number of initiatives including the launch of the Goal Card which gave fans the opportunity to secure a place for all home qualifiers at an attractive price. He said the idea was to attract fans for all matches and not only the plum fixture against Italy.
The MFA CEO admitted this was a difficult group for Malta considering that the lowest seed in the group, apart from Malta, was Armenia who collected seventeen points in the EURO 2012 qualifiers. However national coach Pietro Ghedin, together with the players, will be doing their best to reach their objectives.
Vassallo also said that thanks to the agreement with PBS, national team matches are being screened live on a free-to-air station so that everyone could watch the team.
He concluded by saying that the financial investment was only possible thanks to the national team sponsors, namely platinum sponsor FXDD, gold sponsor Cisk (Simonds Farsons Cisk), technical sponsor Givova and partners Miles Express, Powerade (General Soft Drinks), Grand Hotel Excelsior, Montekristo, Starbene and Bortex.
MFA Head of Marketing Norman Saliba gave details about the tickets and seating arrangements.
