No less than five teams from nearby Sicily will grace the San Gwann Annual Youth Football Festival which kicks-off next Saturday.
The San Gwann Youth Football Nursery, with the unending support and collaboration of the San Gwann Local Council have been organizing and hosting The Mediterranean Cup, arguably the largest Youth Football Festival organized in Malta for the past nineteen years, many of which featuring the participation of foreign teams.
This 19th Edition will see the participation of twelve local nurseries and three Sicilian clubs for a total of forty-four teams and around 650 children for the 9-day showcase of youth football.
The nurseries taking part in this year’s event will be San Gwann, Luxol St. Andrews, Pietà Hotspurs, Hamrun Spartans, Floriana, Birkirkara, Lija / Iklin, Naxxar Lions, Zejtun Corinthians, Valletta, Paola Hibs and Sirens. The five Sicilian teams hail from Santa Sofia, Caltanisetta and Gela.
The nine-day festival is recognized, endorsed and scrutinised by the MFA Technical Centre and Grassroots Committee, who also support other youth football activities organized around the island.
