Zejtun Corinthians unveil new signings

zejtunZejtun Corinthians unveiled their new coaches and the new signings for season 2013/14 during a press conference which was held at the club premises in Zejtun.

Twanny Rocco has been appointed as coach and Simon Cassar as assistant coach. The technical staff also includes Ritchie Curmi, team manager Charlo Magro and his assistant Albert Cumbo. Former player Edward Azzopardi will be assisting with the Youth team as the club aims at seeing more players from the nursery get into the first team.

The squad for the coming season is made up of Roderick Debattista, Clint Micallef, Alan Abela, Andre Farrugia, Daniel Bonnici, Daniel Zahra, Ryan Previ, Mead Mifsud, Isaak Briffa, Elton Vella, Josuel Spiteri, Dylan Xuereb, Dylan Zarb, Adrian Carabott, Kenneth Abela, Gary Tanti, Glen Tanti, Andy Portelli and Vince Camilleri. The club has also be strengthened with three new foreigners – Albanians Aldo Shkalla and Erikson Aga and Latvian striker Aleksandrs Cekulajevs.

Assistant secretary Shalom Mercieca said the committee is looking forward to the coming season as they believe the squad is strong enough to give a good challenge to all the other teams in Division 1.

President Sean Abela welcomed the coaches and the new players. He thanked the current members of the committee and others who no longer form part. He also thanked those who offer the help within the Nursery and the Supporters Club.

Abela said that the club’s main objective is to secure their First Division status as early as possible and then consider all options if the team is among the challengers for promotion. He concluded said the committee together with the coaches and players are working hard to make sure to give hard time to all and that the team is respected by everyone.

Treasurer Melvyn Darmanin said the club is working hard to make sure that the club stays in line with the MFA Financial Fair Play regulations.He said it was no easy task for a club to have a competitive team while spending the least amount possible. He said it was thanks to those people who raise funds for the club and sponsors that the club is able to keep moving on.

At the end of the press conference, a memento was presented to the sponsors, namely Cancu Supreme Travel and Pegeout.
