Comfortable win for Kercem Ajax

Gozo-Football-AssociationThe GFA First Division kicked-off this weekend with the first four matches.

Kercem Ajax registered a most comfortable win over newly-promoted Munxar Falcons 7-0. Joseph Chetcuti scored twice in the first half on 36 and 42 minutes. After the break, the Ajax added another five goals thanks to Jean Paul Mizzi on 54 minutes, Chris Camilleri on 59 and 88 minutes, Andrew Mizzi on 64 minutes and Malcolm Vella on 88 minutes.

Champions Nadur Youngsters defeated Xghajra United 4-1. Jonathan Soares put the Youngsters ahead on 37 minutes. Twenty minutes in the second half, Anthony Portelli doubled the score and five minutes later, Jonathan Soares converted a penalty to make it 3-0. Sunday Baala pulled one back for Xaghra on 73 minutes but David Fenech made it 4-1 on 76 minutes.

Xewkija Tigers and Victoria Hotspurs shared the spoils in a goalless draw while SK Victoria Wanderers defeated Oratory Youths 3-1 in one of the three Victoria derbies in the First Division this season. Christian Cardona put Oratory ahead on the 13th but the Wanderers hit back with goals by Joseph Vella on the 32nd and Fernando Giarrrizzo just before half-time. Eman Bugeja added another goal on 72 minutes.

Meanwhile in Second Division, Ghajnsielem beat Sannat Lions 1-0 thanks to a goal by Robert Grima on 64 minutes.

Zebbug Rovers and Gharb Rangers shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Antoine Camilleri put Zebbug ahead on the 24th but Gharb turned the score in their favour thanks to Sam Harland on 24 and Josef Muscat on 53 minutes. Sylvan Galea notched the equaliser four minutes in added time.
