BOV Division 1: Fine win for Birzebbuga over Zebbug

bov-first-division-2013-2014Birzebbuga St. Peter’s registered a fine 4-1 win over Zebbug Rangers to collect their first three points in the BOV First Division.

Giancarlo Generoso da Silva put the Saints ahead on 22 minutes with Mauricio Britto equalising five minutes later. Ademola Olawepo Shennowo made it 2-1 for Birzebbuga two minutes in the second half. Felix Peplow increased the lead on 69 minutes and two minutes from time, Gary Caruana sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

Lija Athletic joined Melita on top with maximum points from two matches thanks to a 2-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians. An own goal handed Lija the lead on 15 minutes and Kiril Aleksandrov converted a penalty on 75 minutes to double the score.

St. Andrews defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-1. Trayo Grozev put the Saints ahead after just four minutes and William Barbosa doubled the score on 23 minutes. Rodney Refalo pulled one back for Hamrun six minutes from time.

In another match, Pietà Hotspurs and St. George’s shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna put the Hotspurs ahead on the 61st minute witth Dylan Sammut equalising four minutes from time.

Lija and Melita lead the way with 6 points, followed by Zurrieq and St. Andrews on 4, Birzebbuga 3, Pietà 2, Gzira, Msida, Zejtun, St. George’s and Zebbug 1, Gudja 0 and Hamrun -7.
