Futsal Knock-Out: Narrow win puts Hibernians through

futsal-ko-hibs-luxolHibernians qualified for the second round of the FXDD Knock Out competition after defeating Luxol St. Andrews 1-0. It was no easy match for the Paolites who found it hard to score the goal that really mattered. They found a solid Luxol team that denied them on a number of occasions the way in front of goal.

Luxol were strengthened with the inclusion of Florin Anton (ex-Balzan) and William Barbosa (ex-Valletta). The first half was balanced with both sides creating some dangerous situations but the respective goalkeepers were concentrated and no goal was scored.

But in the second half, Hibernians played better and it was no surprise that found the goal that decided their fate in this competition.

It was a goal by Xavier Saliba five minutes from time that enabled them to break the deadlock and put the Paolites in the next round of the competition.

In other matches, Msida St. Joseph surprised all the expectations when they knocked out Premier Division side Birzebbuga St. Peter’s. After a 2-2 draw in normal time, the match had to go on penalties with Msida winning 7-6.

Pembroke Athleta eliminated Hamrun Spartans by a 5-4 score while Zabbar St. Patrick defeated Kalkara 6-5. Zurrieq dominated Marsaskala, beating them 9-4 while Fgura United eliminated Santa Lucia 3-2.
