BOV Third Division: Sirens keep marching on

bov-third-division-2013-2014Sirens maintained a perfect record in the BOV Third Division as they defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-0 in a top-of-the-table clash. This was the fifth win for the St. Paul’s Bay side and the first defeat for Luqa in five matches.

Giovanni Galea put Sirens ahead on 34 minutes and doubled the score just before half-time. Ryan Sciberras sealed the issue with a third goal seven minutes from time.

Swieqi United suffered a second consecutive defeat, losing 0-2 to Mgarr United who returned to winning ways after three successive defeats.

Ryan Zammit put Mgarr ahead on the 18th and Jonathan Muscat doubled the score seven minutes from time.

Xghajra Tornados registered a second consecutive win, beating Kalkara 3-2. Jacob Camilleri put Kalkara ahead on the 19th, Ivo Ginev equalised two minutes later and Jonathan Bugeja made it 2-1 for Xghajra four minutes from the end of the first half. Jacob Camilleri scored again for Kalkara on the hour to restore equilibrium but Darren Galea notched the winner for the Tornados on the 69th.

Attard suffered their first fefeat, losing to Sta. Venera Lightnings 0-1. Jonathan Micallef scored the all-important goal on 71 minutes.

Santa Lucia moved second on level points with Luqa St. Andrews thanks to a 1-0 win over Qrendi. Mohammed Senussi scored the only goal for Eamon Bugeja’s side.

Ghaxaq, on the other hand, beat Ta’ Xbiex 3-0. Florin Anton scored on the 3rd and 25th with Phiram Sakchai adding another on the 71st.

Sirens lead the way with 15 points, followed by Luqa and Santa Lucia on 12, Attard and Sta. Venera 10, Swieqi 9, Xghajra, Mgarr, Ghaxaq and Mtarfa 6, Qrendi 4, Kalkara 1, Ta’ Xbiex 0 and Marsaxlokk -5.
