SK Victoria Wanderers take sole leadership

Gozo-Football-AssociationSK Victoria Wanderers are the new leaders of the Melita First Division in Gozo thankes to a narrow win over wooden-spoonists Xaghra United in one of the two matches in programme on Sunday. The Wanderers lead the way with 24 points from ten matches, two ahead of Nadur Youngsters and three ahead of Xewkija Tigers with the latter teams having a game in hand.

Peter Anizoba scored the all-important goal on 63 minutes.

In another match, Oratory Youths defeated Munxar Falcons 5-0. Three points which put them on level points with Victoria Hotspurs in fifth place.

Gianluca Vella put the Victoria side ahead on 35 minutes. Oliver Farrugia doubled the score on 57 minutes, Shaun Attard 3-0 on 65 minutes, Andrea Debrincat 4-0 on 74 minutes and Shaun Attard once again 5-0 on 76 minutes.

Shaun Attard is the top scorer with nine goals.

Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, St. Laurence Spurs won the top-of-the-table clash with Ghajnsielem by the odd goal in five. The two teams now share the top spot with 16 points.

Charlon Tabone put Ghajnsielem ahead but early in the second half, Mambaye Boye levelled matters. The Blacks had Joe Camilleri sent off and Mambaye Boye put the Spurs 2-1 ahead. Joshua Cassar was also sent off for Ghajnsielem with Mario Cutajar making it 3-1 for St. Laurence. Joseph Attard scored a second goal for Ghajnsielem in stoppage time.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers defeated Sannat Lions 3-0 thanks to goals by Pavol Gierti, Gorgi Portelli and Sylvan Galea.
