Greens succumb to fifth consecutive defeat

bov-premier-league-2013-2014Sliema Wanderers came back from one goal down to beat Floriana 4-1 and extend their positive run to seven matches to keep the pace with Hibernians.

For Floriana, this was yet another disappointing result as they suffered the fifth consecutive defeat.

The Greens lacked Steve Pisani and Christian Caruana. The Wanderers, on the other hand, were in full strength.

Floriana took the lead on the 19th minute thanks to a direct freekick by Gary Muir from the left which was not held by Henry Bonello.

Ten minutes later, Sliema equalised when off a Vladavic corner from the right, Stefano Bianciardi headed the ball home past goalkeeper Daniel Hanford.

The Blues forged ahead on 68 minutes when off an assist by Stanley Ohawuchi from the left, Trevor Cilia tapped the ball home from close range.

Five minutes later, Sliema increased the lead thanks to John Mintoff whose angled shot beat Hanford following a good run on the right flank.

The Wanderers were awarded a penalty on the 80th after Stanley Ohawuchi was floored inside the area. From the penalty spot, Ivan Woods converted to make it 4-1.
