A Floriana FC Extraordinary General Meeting held on Saturday to choose the consortium which will be leading the club and develop the Independence Arena parking area proved inconclusive as the vote ended in a tie with 93 votes for the consortium led by Riccardo Gaucci – the son of former Perugia and Catania owner Luciano Gaucci, 93 votes for the consortium led by Sunderland marketing director Mike Farnan and an invalid vote.
Other investors had put forward proposals but eventually these two consortia were short-listed and a vote was taken on Saturday following presentations by the two parties. Another vote will be taken on Sunday morning between 09:00 and noon.
Gaucci served as vice-president of Perugia and then president of Catania between 2000 and 2004.
Farnan is a former managing director of Manchester United International, a division set up to grow the brand in Asia, the Middle East and Oceania regions. He has also held similar senior roles with Italian Serie A club AC Parma and La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and was then appointed Executive Director at Sheffield United. Mike Farnan is currently international and national marketing director at Sunderland.
Floriana are currently without a president following the resignation of Steven Vaughan Jnr a few days ago.
