Another heavy defeat for women's national team

2015-Women-World-CupThe Malta women’s women national team suffered a heavy 0-8 defeat to Iceland in another match from Group 3 of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.

This was the fifth defeat in the group for Pierre Brincat’s side which was coming from an 11-0 defeat to Switzerland on Saturday.

The visitors scored four in the first half, adding another four after the break.

Harpa Thorsteinsdottir put Iceland ahead after just two minutes and Dora Maria Larusdottir doubled the score on the 15th. Thorsteinsdottir scored the third goal on 33 minutes and Dagny Brynjarsdottir made it 4-0 ten minutes later.

Thorsteinsdottir added another on the hour and four minutes later, Fanndis Fridriksdottir made it 6-0. Substitute Gudmunda Oladottir scored the seventh goal three minutes from time and four minutes in added time, Brynjarsdottir sealed the issue with an eighth and final goal.

Malta hosts Israel in another game from Group 3 on May 7.
