Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery held another important event in its programme of activities as it hosted a UEFA Study Group made up of almost fifty coaches from Gibraltar, Georgia, Liechtenstein and Malta. The Malta Football Association who organized this Study Group on behalf of UEFA asked Sliema WFN to host the study group on the basis of an excellent organizational ability and for its professional technical setup with regards to Grassroots football catering not only for talented players but also for mixed-abilities groups.
The study group was addressed by Youth Director of Coaching Claude Chetcuti who explained the technical approach and the ‘long-term player development’ programme adopted by the nursery. Mr Mark Borg, on behalf of the administration delivered a presentation on the history and organisational setup of the nursery and its efforts and investment in the technical staff so that it continues to strive to offer the best possible to the young developing players.
This was followed by two simultaneous sample training sessions for different age groups conducted by Sliema coaching staff. The UEFA Study Group was also accompanied by Mr Robert Gatt, Stephen Grima and Joseph Mallia from the MFA Technical Centre.
For Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery this important event will be followed by a very hectic summer programme as no less than four teams from different age groups will be travelling abroad. Of special interest is the U/14 visit to Dublin as part of an E.U. funded ‘Youth In Action’ exchange programme.
