Pietà Hotspurs registered a comfortable win over Qormi while Balzan claimed their second win, defeating Naxxar Lions in two matches from Group A of The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup 2014 at the Luxol Stadium on Wednesday.
In the first game, newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs defeated Qormi FC 4-1. Kyle Cesare put the Hotspurs ahead one minute from the end of the first half. The same player doubled the score on 52 minutes and five minutes later, Kossingou Balamandji made it 3-0. Rafael Xavier increased the lead further for the Hotspurs but Fábio Miguel Malheiro Paím converted a penalty for Qormi two minutes from time to score a consolation goal.
In another match, Balzan came from behind to beat Naxxar Lions 2-1. Emmanuel Ibok Edet put Naxxar ahead on the 9th minute but Justin Grioli equalised on the half-hour and Lydon Micallef made it 2-1 three minutes in the second half. Micallef could have increased the lead further eight minutes from time but missed a penalty.
Balzan lead the way with six points, followed by Pietà and Naxxar on three and Qormi zero points.
On Thursday, Mosta take on Floriana at 18:30 while Vittoriosa Stars face Zebbug Rangers at 20:30 in two matches from Group B.
