SK Victoria Wanderers registered a most dramatic 3-2 win over neighbours Victoria Hotspurs in the derby as the Melita First Division kicked-off this weekend.
Michael Bezzina put the Hotspurs ahead on the 29th minute but Ajibade Adeshina equalised on the 76th. Moussa Bamba seemed to have handed Victoria Hotspurs victory on the 90th but two goals in added time by John Paul Grima and Jose Sanz Ortiz gave SK Victoria Wanderers the three points. Dylan Mercieca was sent off for the Hotspurs in added time.
Champions Xewkija Tigers came back from one goal down to beat Sannat Lions 3-1.
Eric Nwankwo put Sannat ahead on 31 minutes but five minutes in the second half, Kenneth Mercieca equalised. New signing Daniel Bogdanovic put the Tigers ahead on 77 minutes and Dene Shields sealed the issue with a third goal on the 90th.
Three players were sent off as Nadur Youngsters defeated newly-promoted St. Lawrence Spurs 3-2. Joseph Grima and Josef Buttigieg put Nadur two goals ahead within the first six minutes. Daniel Micallef was sent off for St. Lawrence on the 38th minute and Claudio Antunes converted a penalty to make it 3-0. During the second half, William Barbosa scored twice on 73 and 84 minutes to reduce the gap for the Spurs. Frankie Camilleri and Louis Buttigieg were sent off for Nadur and St. Lawrence respectively in the final stages.
A goal seven minutes from time by Shaun Attard gave Oratory Youths a narrow win over Kercem Ajax.
Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, Gharb Rangers defeated Zebbug Rovers 3-1. Josef Muscat, Christian Attard and Paul Anthony Attard put Gharb three goals ahead before Manwel Cordina reduced the gap for the Rovers.
In another match, Ghajnsielem came back from one goal down to beat Qala Saints 2-1. Joseph Attard put Qala ahead but a brace by Charlon Tabone during the second half handed the Blacks the three points.
On Monday, Xaghra United and Munxar Falcons shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Luke Attard put Xaghra ahead but Frank Paul Azzopardi levelled matters for Munxar.
