BOV Division 1: Gudja miss chance to regain top spot

Gudja United missed the opportunity to regain the top spot in the BOV First Division as they lost 2-3 to St. George’s in one of the two BOV First Division matches at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Gabriel Okechukwu put St. George’s ahead on 19 minutes but Mauro Brincat equalised on 27 minutes. Twelve minutes in the second half, Udochukwu Nwoko put Gudja 2-1 ahead but ten minutes later, Gabriel Okechukwu levelled matters, notching the winner four minutes from time.

In another match, Fgura United defeated Gzira United 4-3. Ramon Zammit’s side gained a three-goal lead by the end of the first half, going ahead through Jonathan Bugeja on the 19th and a brace by Roland John Emeka just before half-time. Yanis Tonna pulled one back for Gzira five minutes in the second half but Emeka made it 4-1 on the 55th. Yanis Tonna converted a penalty on 62 minutes and Anthony Ewurum scored a third goal for Gzira two minutes from time.

Melita lead the way with 15 points, followed by Gudja on 14, St. Andrews 13, Lija and Mqabba 12, Pembroke and Vittoriosa 11, Gzira 10, Fgura, Zurrieq and St. George’s 9, Rabat 8, Msida 6 and Birzebbuga 1.
