Citizens target third successive win

Champions Valletta will be aiming for a third successive win on Saturday as they take on Zebbug Rangers in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Valletta bounced back from back-to-back defeats to Pietà and Birkirkara with two wins over Naxxar Lions and Balzan and another win over Zebbug would put them closer to Birkirkara who are currently in second place.

Boosted by a good performance in the derby against Qormi where they managed to earn a point, wooden-spoonists Zebbug Rangers will be hoping to get at least a point from this game in order not to lose ground with the other teams lying in the lower part of the table.

Ivan Zammit, who has now assumed the role of Valletta coach, assisted by Gilbert Agius, should be counting on the full squad as Hugo Faria returns after serving a one-match ban. Zebbug are also expected to be in full strength.

Meanwhile in the first match, Naxxar Lions take on Sliema Wanderers.

The Lions registered their first win last week after defeating Pietà Hotspurs 4-0 and now target another positive result in their bid to climb up the table. The Wanderers, on the other hand, will be aiming at returning to winning ways after being held in a draw by Balzan and losing to Birkirkara.

David Alejandro Reano returns for Naxxar after serving a suspension. Sliema Wanderers striker Andrea Pisanu is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban.
