Hamrun Spartans and San Gwann keep marching on in the BOV Second Division as both registered wins on Sunday.
Leaders Hamrun defeated Xghajra Tornados 3-0 thanks to goals by Simon Shead and Saturday Nanapere on 28 and 31 minutes respectively and Mauro Busuttil four minutes in added time. On the other hand, early goals by Nikolai Muscat on the 6th and Ryan Zammit on the 18th gave San Gwann a 2-0 win over Marsa.
After losing to Sirens in their previous outing, Senglea Athletic dropped another two points as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Mellieha. Timmy Thomas put Senglea ahead on 32 minutes but an own goal on the 73rd restored equilibrium.
Zabbar St. Patrick extended their positive run to six matches as they beat Gharghur 4-1. Nikolay Filipov converted a penalty on the 6th minute to put the Saints ahead, Muda Fagbeja equalised on the 18th but another penalty, this time by Jean Claude Cesare on the 23rd made it 2-1 to Zabbar. Cesare added another on the 32nd minute with Randall Cassar scoring the fourth and final goal on the 90th.
Sirens came back from one goal down to beat Siggiewi 3-1. Jason Camilleri put Siggiewi ahead on the 12th thanks to a penalty but Andrew Caruana levelled matters on 29 minutes. Six minutes later, Ryan Sciberras made it 2-1 and Lee Joe Schembri scored the third goal on the 74th.
Ryan Sell scored twice as Zejtun Corinthians defeated Ghaxaq 3-0 to register a third successive win. He put the Corinthians ahead on 34 minutes and doubled the score nine minutes later before Udojoh Ekele sealed the issue with a third goal ten minutes from time.
Hamrun lead the way with 22 points, followed by San Gwann on 21, Senglea 16, Zabbar 15, Gharghur, Sirens and Zejtun 13, Mellieha 11, Swieqi 9, Marsa 8, Siggiewi 5, Ghaxaq 4, Dingli and Xghajra 3.
