Vittoriosa Stars and St. George’s earned a point each from the derby as they shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw in one of the four matches from the BOV First Division.
Michael Camilleri put Vittoriosa ahead on 12 minutes and six minutes from the end of the first half, Francisco Arriagada Mella doubled the score. Francis Ita pulled one back for St. George’s on 64 minutes and two minutes from time, Larson Mallia converted a penalty to notch the equaliser.
Leaders St. Andrews defeated ten-man Rabat Ajax 3-1. Luxol took the lead thanks to a goal by Matteo Desira Buttigieg. Rabat had Lawrence Chiedozie sent off for what seemed a rather harsh decision by referee Glen Tonna. Emiliano Lattes doubled the score, David Azzopardi pulled one back for Rabat but Trayo Grozev sealed the issue with a third goal.
Gzira United suffered a fourth consecutive defeat as they lost 0-1 to Pembroke Athleta courtesy of a goal by Ayrton Azzopardi three minutes from the end of the first half.
Melita stay in second place thanks to an early goal by Julian Galea as they beat Zurrieq 1-0.
St. Andrews lead the way with 19 points, followed by Melita on 18, Pembroke 17, Gudja, Vittoriosa and Lija 15, Mqabba 13, Fgura, St. George’s, Gzira and Msida 10, Zurrieq 9, Rabat 8 and Birzebbuga 1.
