The top two teams at the end of the second round of the BOV Premier League will be facing each in the final match from the third round. The decision was taken by the Council of the Malta Football Association on Tuesday.
While there was a consensus that the top two teams will be facing each other on match-day 33, there was a heated debate with regards whether the sequence would be determined by a draw as proposed by the Executive Committee or a pre-determined sequence proposed by the Premier League Clubs Standing Committee.
MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo argued that a draw would be the fairest way but representatives of Premier League insisted that the match sequence should be published in advance.
However the Council voted in large marjority of the PLSC’s proposal.
Following the change in format of the BOV Premier League, points will still be halved at the end of the second round but the third round will be played on a one-round round-robin system. The bottom two teams will be relegated to Division 1 while the team placing 10th will be playing a decider against the team placing third in the BOV First Division.
