Leaders Hamrun Spartans collected three precious points in the BOV Second Division as a brace by Saturday Nanapere gave them a 2-0 win over Zabbar St. Patrick, therefore halting the Saints’ impressive run of nine positive results.
Nanapere put the Spartans ahead on the 4th minute and doubled the score ten minutes from time.
San Gwann kept the pace with the leaders thanks to an important 2-1 win over Senglea Athletic. An own goal put Senglea ahead on 11 minutes but Shawn Vella equalised five minutes from the end of the first half and Josef Cutajar notched the winner on the 69th.
After losing four out of the previous six matches, Mellieha returned to winning ways as they beat Zejtun Corinthians 2-1. Mellieha took the lead thanks to a goal by Kyle Simiana on the 9th. Alan Abela levelled matters on the 23rd but Wayne Borg St. John made it 2-1 on 74 minutes.
Xghajra Tornados held Swieqi United in a 2-2 draw. Omar Smeir put Swieqi ahead on the 8th but Antoine Barbara equalised on the 67th. Kenneth Ekezie restored the lead seven minutes later but eight minutes from time, Barbara restored equilibrium.
The other two matches between Gharghur and Siggiewi, Ghaxaq and Dingli Swallows ended in goalless draws.
Hamrun lead the way with 31 points, followed by San Gwann on 29, Zabbar on 24, Senglea, Swieqi and Zejtun 19, Gharghur 18, Sirens 16, Siggiewi and Mellieha 15, Marsa 12, Dingli 8, Ghaxaq and Xghajra 5.
