BOV Division 2: San Gwann share top spot with Hamrun after draw with Siggiewi

San Gwann and Hamrun Spartans are joint-leaders in the BOV Second Division after San Gwann could only manage to get a point from the clash with Siggiewi.

An own goal one minute in the second half put San Gwann ahead but goals by Francois Guihard on the 55th and Kim Buhagiar on the 75th gave Siggiewi the lead. Dormond Micallef rescued a point for San Gwann with a goal seven minutes from time.

Senglea Athletic moved four points clear of Zejtun Corinthians thanks to a 2-0 win over Xghajra Tornados.

Timmy Thomas converted a penalty on the 42nd minute to put Senglea ahead and Aud-Gustine James Obaje doubled the score on the 47th.

Zejtun Corinthians, on the other hand, lost 0-2 to Dingli Swallows. Kayne Said opened the score five minutes from the end of the first half and Alex Pedrozo made it 2-0 two minutes in the second half.

Zabbar St Patrick lost 1-3 to Marsa to lose further ground in the battle for promotion. Heathcliff Schembri put Marsa ahead on the 37th, Nikolai Filipov equalised on the 59th but seven minutes later, Schembri restored the lead for Marsa with Kerstin Brincat sealing the issue on the 70th with a third goal.

A brace by Stephane Sylla on the 28th and 44th gave Mellieha a 2-0 win over Gharghur.

In another match, Sirens beat Swieqi United by the odd goal in five. Jonathan Briscoe White gave Swieqi the lead on the 25th but Kristian Galea equalised on the 33rd and just before half-time, Ryan Sciberras made it 2-1 for the St. Paul’s Bay side. Jonathan Briscoe White restored equilibrium on the 59th but five minutes from time, Lee Joe Schembri notched the winner.

Hamrun and San Gwann lead the way with 43 points, followed by Senglea on 38, Zejtun 34, Zabbar 30, Gharghur 29, Siggiewi and Mellieha 28, Sirens 25, Swieqi and Marsa 23, Dingli 16, Ghaxaq 9 and Xghajra 5.
