BOV Division 2: San Gwann regain sole leadership

San Gwann regained sole leadership in the BOV Second Division thanks to a comfortable 4-0 win over Dingli Swallows.

Joshua Cutajar scored twice within the first seven minutes – on the 3rd and on the 7th – to put Edmond Lufi’s side two goals ahead. Four minutes from the end of the first half, Shaun Vella made it 3-0 and Nezar Abouhaisa added another on the 75th minute.

Senglea Athletic dropped two important points in the race for promotion as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Sirens. A draw which leaves them seven points behind the leaders and five behind Hamrun.

Senglea took the lead thanks to a goal by Aud-Gustine James Obaje after just one minute. Ryan Sciberras levelled matters one minute from the end of the first half. Timmy Thomas restored the lead on 78 minutes but Lee Joe Schembri notched the equaliser on the 90th.

Mark Deguara scored a hat-trick as Mellieha registered a comfortable 5-0 win over Xghajra Tornados. Stephane Sylla put Mellieha ahead on 26 minues, Mark Deguara doubled the score on the 54th and added another on the 69th. Ryan Cutajar made it 4-0 on the 75th and five minutes later, Deguara sealed the issue with a fifth goal.

In another match, Siggiewi and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

San Gwann lead the way with 46 points, followed by Hamrun on 44, Senglea 39, Zejtun 35, Zabbar 33, Mellieha 31, Gharghur 30, Siggiewi 29, Sirens 26, Swieqi and Marsa 24, Dingli 16, Ghaxaq 9 and Xghajra 5.
