BOV Division 3: Mgarr, Qrendi and Kirkop keep marching on

Mgarr United maintained a four-point lead over second-placed Qrendi and a five-point lead over Kirkop United, although the latter two have a game in hand, as the top three teams in the BOV Third Division registered wins.

Joseph Paul Zammit scored twice as Mgarr beat Marsaxlokk 3-1. Zammit openend the score on the 13th and doubled the score on the 34th. Manuel Caruana reduced the gap on 58 minutes but eleven minutes later, Clayton Borg made it 3-1 for Mgarr.

Qrendi beat Mdina Knights 2-1 thanks to a goal one minute from time by Dassier Sammut. Clayton Caruana had put them ahead on 58 minutes with Cachel Vella equalising on the 65th.

A brace by Michael Theuma on the 70th and the 90th gave Kirkop United a 2-0 win over Kalkara.

Attard beat Luqa St. Andrew’s by the odd goal in five. Christian Abela put Attard ahead on the 9th and a brace by Malcolm Tirchett on the 30th and 46th increased the lead to three goals. Gordon Failla pulled one back on the 66th and Malcolm Coleiro reduced the gap further with a goal three minutes in added time.

A goal by Franceso Azzopardi on the 70th minute gave Mtarfa a narrow win over Ta’ Xbiex.

In another match, Santa Lucia were held in a goalless draw by St. Venera Lightnings.

Mgarr lead the way with 45 points, followed by Qrendi on 41, Kirkop 40, Santa Lucia 37, Attard 35, Mtarfa 33, Marsaskala 30, Sta. Venera 27, Kalkara 24, Mdina 21, Luqa 14, Marsaxlokk 13 and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
