Senglea Athletic extended their unbeaten run to ten matches in the BOV Second Division as they defeated second-placed Hamrun Spartans 3-1 in a direct clash between two challengers for promotion. This defeat for Hamrun also leaves San Gwann enjoying a five-point lead at the top.
Simon Shead put Hamrun ahead on the 33rd but a brace by Peter Anizoba on the 35th and 42nd turned the score in favour of Senglea. Six minutes in added time, Aud-Gustine James Obaje sealed the issue with a third goal.
Meanwhile Marsa moved closer to securing their status as they beat Swieqi United 1-0 courtesy of Mauro Grioli one minute from time.
San Gwann lead the way with 52 points, followed by Hamrun on 47, Senglea 45, Zejtun 38, Zabbar 34, Gharghur and Mellieha 31, Sirens and Siggiewi 29, Swieqi and Marsa 27, Dingli 16, Ghaxaq 9 and Xghajra 5.
