St. George’s defeated Melita 2-1 on Tuesday to join the race the third place in the BOV First Division and a place in the promotion play-off against the team placing tenth in the BOV Premier League.
A win for the Amateurs would have put them alone in third place but this defeat leaves them joint-fifth, two points behind third-placed Fgura United and one ahead of St. George’s. With three games to go, three points separate six teams in the battle for third place.
Alexander Eby put Melita ahead on 25 minutes but a brace by Bruno Chikwado Mbonu on 73 and 76 minutes gave Patrick Curmi’s side the three points.
Pembroke and St. Andrews lead the way with 46 points, followed by Fgura on 40, Gzira 39, Gudja, Vittoriosa and Melita 38, St. George’s 37, Lija 32, Mqabba 30, Rabat 22, Zurrieq 19, Msida 14 and Birzebbuga 12.
