Two Premier League matches on Thursday

Four clubs play their final league game on Thursday as Floriana take on Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara face Balzan at the National Stadium on Thursday, kick-off at 18:00 and 20:00.

In the first game, Floriana and Sliema hope to end their season on a positive note. The Greens were challenging for a place in the UEFA Europa League but lost the battle to Balzan. The Wanderers, on the other hand, spent their league campaign in a rather comfortable mid-table position, ending sixth.

Floriana’s Marcelina Emerson and Amadou Samb and Sliema, Andrea Scozzese and Pedro dos Santos Calcado are ruled out through suspension. However Luca Martinelli and Steve Pisani will be back for Sliema and Floriana respectively.

Floriana defeated Sliema 2-0 in the second round but the first round clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the second game, Birkirkara take on Balzan in what will be a warm-up game for the Stripes ahead of next week’s FA Trophy semi-finals – the draws for which will be held on Monday.

Birkirkara finished third this season after dropping seven points from the last four matches – draws with Qormi and Hibernians and a defeat to Valletta. Balzan, on the other hand, reached a most important objective – their first ever participation in the UEFA Europa League after finishing fourth.

Balzan defeated Birkirkara 3-2 in the first round with the second round clash ending in a goalless draw.
