Hamrun Spartans Powerade Cup 2015 launched

Four First Division clubs will be taking part in the Hamrun Spartans Powerade Cup 2015 which will be held between the 17th and 22nd August. Details were revealed during a press conference at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Wednesday.

The participants are Pietà Hotspurs who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, Gzira United who just missed out on promotion after losing the promotion play-off and newly-promoted Senglea Athletic along with hosts Hamrun Spartans who were also promoted after just one year in Division 2.

Hamrun Spartans vice-president Gejtu Debattista thanked the sponsor and Bryan Degabriele and his team for organising the tournament once again on behalf of the club. He said this tournament is of utmost importance for the club and the other participating teams in view of the preparations for the coming season.

Bryan Degabriele thanked General Soft Drinks for sponsoring the tournament for the fourth time and the other three participants which made this tournament possible.

Senglea Athletic team manager Albert Cumbo said the club’s main objective will be that of retaining their First Division status after winning promotion at the end of last season.

Pietà Hotspurs assistant secretary Alfred Zahra said that the team went through an almost complete overhaul since last season following the departure of a number of players and all foreigners.

Gzira United team manager Marlon Galea, on the other hand, said that the team will be aiming for promotion after missing out last season and said that this tournament will give the club the opportunity to gauge the progress so far.
