Hosts St. Andrews defeated rivals Melita 1-0 in the match for fifth place in the St. Andrews Summer Friendship Cup being played at the Luxol Stadium.

Luca Cosmai scored the all-important goal for Wayne Attard’s side during the first half.

Meanwhile Gzira United finished seventh as they defeated Fgura United 3-2 in another match.

Louis Rene put the Maroons ahead on the 5th minute but Fgura turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Michael Matthias on the 25th and Anderson Mendes Ribeiro on the 40th. Jose Antonio Villanova restored equilibrium for Gzira with Rene notching the winner on the 70th.

The tournament comes to an end on Friday as Valletta take on Sliema Wanderers in the final, kick-off at 20:30. At 18:15, Senglea Athletic and Tarxien Rainbows will battle out for third place.
