A hat-trick by Haruna Garba Zambuk gave newly-promoted Hamrun Spartans their first three points as they beat Fgura United 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium in one of the four First Division matches in programme on Sunday.
Haruna Garba put Hamrun ahead on 38 minutes but Juan Manuel Ruiz Perez equalised on the 68th. However Hamrun regained the lead thanks to another goal by Garba on 75 minutes and the same player added another seven minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Rabat Ajax defeated St. George’s 1-0 with Wayne Borg scoring the all-important goal on 36 minutes.
Newly-promoted San Gwann and Zebbug Rangers, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Josef Cutajar put San Gwann ahead on the 23rd but Angelo Catania rescued a point for the Rangers ten minutes from time.
In another match, Melita defeated Gudja United 2-1. Jean Pierre Attard and Alan Borg Olivier put the Amateurs two goals ahead with goals on the 26th and 38th. Gudja reduced the gap through Bjorn Bondin on the 70th.
