Malta lost 1-2 to hosts Lithuania in the second match from the FIFA Futsal World Cup Preliminary Round Group C qualifiers at the S.Darius & S.Girenas Sport Center in Kaunas on Saturday.
The team’s performance improved over the first game against France. The Maltese managed to take the lead thanks to a great goal by Jovica Milijic but six minutes later, the hosts equalised through Deividas Stradalovas.
The second half left the Maltese breathless with goalkeeper Reuben Grech neutralising several attempts at goal while Matthew Attard and Xavier Saliba had good attempts at goal blocked. However the Lithuanians kept pressing for the goal and notched the winner on the 36th through Rolandas Leščius.
Malta plays the third and final match on Sunday morning against Albania.
