Giovanni Tedesco no longer Birkirkara coach

Birkirkara FC announced that they had reached an agreement with coach Giovanni Tedesco over the termination of his contract.

Tedesco had joined the Stripes this summer after a thirteen-month spell with Floriana during which he steered the Greens to safety in the final three league matches of season 2013/14 and a fifth-place finish at the end of last season. With Birkirkara, he had a most positive start as he led the team to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League after eliminating FC Ulisses of Armenia, only to be eliminated by West Ham United on penalties following a 0-1 defeat at Upton Park and a 1-0 win at Ta’ Qali.

However their Premier League campaign was worse than the club was expecting as they were held in five draws and lost two direct clashes with Valletta, including last Saturday’s heavy 0-4 defeat.

Assistant coach Josef Mansueto is expected to lead the team this weekend in the game against Pembroke Athleta before a new coach is appointed.
