BOV Division 2: Sirens move three points clear

Sirens take sole leadership in the BOV Second Division as they defeated Mgarr while Gharghur bounced back from last week’s defeat to Zabbar St. Patrick with a win over Marsa.

Giovanni Galea was the hero for Sirens as they defeated Mgarr United 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Galea put the St. Paul’s Bay side ahead when he converted a penalty on the 25th and then doubled the score on the 38th. Matthew Muscat scored a consolation goal for Mgarr on the 63rd.

At the Luxol Stadium, Gharghur scored twice in the final twelve minutes to beat Marsa 2-0. Christian Stewart put Gharghur ahead on the 78th and Muda Fagbeja doubled the score four minutes from time.

Zabbar St. Patrick and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Charles Abela Stadium while at the Sirens Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s were held in a 1-1 draw by Zurrieq. Marko Dimitrijevic put Zurrieq ahead on the 17th minute and Birzebbuga rescued a point with a goal by Keith Muscat eight minutes from time.

Kirkop United came from behind to beat Mellieha 3-2 at the Luxol Stadium. Ryan Cutajar put Mellieha ahead on the 29th minute but a Milan Balovic penalty levelled matters for Kirkop two minutes in the second half. Ryan Zammit restored the lead for the Blues two minutes later but Kirkop scored twice in the final minutes to secure the three points as Josef Felice equalised on the 83rd and deep into stoppage time, Dylan Rapinett notched the winner.

Msida St. Joseph held Swieqi United in a 1-1 draw at the Charles Abela Stadium. Andrew Formosa put Msida ahead on the 8th and Kenneth Ekezie equalised on the 23rd.

Sirens lead the way with 30 points, followed by Gharghur and Marsa on 27, Zabbar 23, Zejtun 20, Birzebbuga 19, Siggiewi 18, Mgarr and Kirkop 16, Qrendi 14, Swieqi and Mellieha 13, Zurrieq and Msida 5.
