Hamrun Spartans maintained their positive run in the BOV First Division as they defeated Fgura United 4-0 in one of four matches in programme on Saturday.
The Spartans registered a comfortable win at the Victor Tedesco Stadium which puts them on level points with Gzira who however have a game in hand. Haruna Garba put the Spartans ahead and Trevor Cilia doubled the score. Garba added another before substitute Matias Muchardi sealed the issue with a fourth goal.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Rabat Ajax returned to winning ways as they beat St. George’s 5-1.
Lawrence Chiedozie put the Magpies ahead on the half-hour. Early in the second half, Wayne Borg doubled the score and Aidan Azzopardi made it 3-1 before substitute Kenneth Abela reduced the gap for the Cospicua side. However Chiedozie added another with Joseph Caruana scored a fifth in stoppage time.
At the Centenary Stadium, San Gwann collected three precious points in a 2-1 win over Zebbug Rangers. Following a goalless first half, Nikolai Muscat put San Gwann ahead on the 51st minute. Kurt Zammit equalised a minute later but Andre Cachia made it 2-1 for San Gwann twelve minutes from time.
In another match, Gudja United held Melita in a goalless draw.
Gzira and Hamrun lead the way with 33 points, followed by Senglea on 25, Pietà 24, Lija 21, Rabat and Melita 19, Vittoriosa, Zebbug and Fgura 18, Mqabba 15, St. George’s and San Gwann 10 and Gudja 8.
