BOV Division 2: Sirens held by Siggiewi

Leaders Sirens extended their positive run to seven matches but dropped two important points in a goalless draw with Siggiewi at the Charles Abela Stadium in one of six BOV Second Division matches on Saturday.

Marsa, who share the second place with Gharghur, failed to take advantage of this draw as they were beaten 0-2 by Zejtun Corinthians at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Justin Cilia and Neil Tabone. Gharghur will be in action on Monday against Swieqi United.

Zurrieq earned a point in a goalless draw with Zabbar St. Patrick at the Luxol Stadium while Mellieha returned to winning ways as they beat Msida St. Joseph 6-0 at the Sirens Stadium.

Gianni Kimvwidi put Mellieha ahead on the 2nd minute and doubled the score on the 26th. Wayne Borg St John added another just before half-time and early in the second half, Mellieha scored another three goals through Shawn Deguara on the 51st, Ryan Cutajar on the 57th and Kyle Simiana on the hour.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Qrendi defeated Kirkop United 4-0. Leon Camilleri opened the score on the 21st, Clayton Caruana doubled the score on the 45th, Luca Casha converted a penalty on the 51st and four minutes later, Clayton Caruana added a fourth goal for Qrendi.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, Mgarr United were leading 2-1 against Birzebbuga St. Peter’s but the match was abandoned when the floodlights went off.

Sirens lead the way with 31 points, followed by Gharghur and Marsa on 27, Zabbar 24, Zejtun 23, Birzebbuga and Siggiewi 19, Qrendi 17, Mellieha 16, Mgarr and Kirkop 15, Swieqi 13, Zurrieq 6 and Msida 5.
