Comfortable win for Xewkija Tigers

Xewkija Tigers found no difficulty in beating St. Lawrence Spurs 5-1 in one of two matches from the Gozo Football League First Division on Sunday.

Thiago Melo Dos Santos gave the Tigers a two-goal lead with goals on the 20th and 39th and Dene Shields added another eight minutes in the second half. Daniel Bogdanovic converted a penalty on the 75th and although Joseph Mario Vella pulled one back on the 89th, the former Malta international striker added another in added time to make it 5-1.

In another match, SK Victoria Wanderers and Oratory Youths shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Joseph Grima put the Youths ahead on the 39th but Chris Sciortino equalised for the Wanderers on the 57th.

Meanwhile the second round of the Gozo Football League Second Division came to an end on Saturday as Sannat Lions defeated Gharb Rangers 4-2 and Zebbug Rovers held Nadur Youngsters in a 1-1 draw. A draw while leaves leaders Xaghra United two points ahead of Nadur.

An own goal by Paul Camilleri on the 11th minute put Zebbug ahead but Saviour Attard levelled matters for Nadur ten minutes in the second half.

In the other match, goals by Nicholas Micallef and Antoine Camilleri on the 11th and 27th put Sannat 2-0 ahead but a goal by Sylvan Galea on the half-hour and a Christian Attard penalty on the 72nd restored equilibrium. However ten minutes from time, the Lions regained the lead through Kenneth Bonnici with Eric Gauci sealing the issue in added time.
