Leaders Valletta will be aiming for a ninth consecutive win on Sunday as they take on Pembroke Athleta in one of the two BOV Premier League matches at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The Citizens extended their positive run to fifteen matches as they beat Sliema Wanderers 3-0 last week. In their last six matches, they conceded just one goal and scored fifteen.
However their task is no easy one as in the previous rounds, Pembroke defeated them 2-0 in the first round with the second round clash ending in a 3-2 win for Paul Zammit’s side.
Pembroke lost three out of their last four matches, losing 1-3 to St. Andrews in their last outing.
Patmore Shereni is ruled out injured for Pembroke while Valletta could not count on the suspended Uchenna Umeh.
Meanwhile in the first match, Hibernians take on Mosta.
The Paolites are currently third following Balzan’s 8-0 win over Naxxar but a win on Sunday would put them back in second place. In their last outing, Hibs also defeated Naxxar with an identical 8-0 score to return to winning ways and extend their unbeaten run to ten matches.
Mosta, on the other hand, registered a narrow defeat over Qormi to move seventh, two points ahead of Sliema and three ahead of Pembroke.
Tyrone Farrugia returns for Mosta after serving a one-match ban. Hibs, on the other hand, could not count on the injured Rui da Gracia Gomes and Jorge Santos Silva.
Mosta defeated Hibernians 4-1 in the first round but the second round clash ended in a 4-0 win for the Paolites. Hibs also defeated Mosta 2-1 in the FA Trophy.
