Late goals enable Hibernians to beat ten-man Floriana

Hibernians scored twice in the final eighteen minutes to complete a comeback and take home the three points in a 3-1 win over a Floriana side reduced to ten men after just twenty-nine minutes. Three points which put them back in second place, sxi points behind leaders Valletta.

Floriana, on the other hand, remain in fifth place but now lie six points behind fourth-placed Birkirkara.

Floriana took the lead on the 14th minute when off a cross from the left, Clayton Failla failed the clear the ball into safety and Steve Pisani slotted the ball past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

Hibs equalised on the 22nd minute as Jackson Lima took full advantage of a misunderstanding between Andrea Scozzese and Clyde Borg and beat Calleja Cremona with a low shot.

Floriana were reduced to ten men on the 29th after referee Esther Azzopardi gave marching orders to goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona for a foul on Jorginho just outside the area. A decision which brought harsh protests by the Floriana players and officials.

The Paolites forged ahead on the 72nd minute when Jackson Lima served Jurgen Degabriele who exchanged the ball with Jorginho before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Matthew Grech.

Six minutes from time, Hibs sealed the issue when Jorginho released Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro inside the area and the Brazilian hit low past the substitute Floriana goalkeeper.
